A surplus of ghosts in inZOI can transform cities into desolate ghost towns, disrupting their balance. In a recent PC Gamer Magazine feature, inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim explained the profound impact of the game’s karma system on player experience.

Kim noted, "Every action a Zoi takes accrues karma points." He elaborated, "Upon a Zoi’s death, their karma score determines their soul’s fate. A low score turns them into a ghost, requiring karma redemption before they can reincarnate."

If too many Zois die with poor karma, the city’s dynamics shift dramatically. Kim stated, "An abundance of ghosts prevents new Zois from being born or families from forming, tasking players with managing their Zois’ karma to maintain city vitality." This mechanic challenges players to carefully balance karma to prevent their cities from becoming spectral wastelands.

Kim emphasized, "The karma system isn’t about enforcing ‘good’ deeds or punishing ‘bad’ ones." He added, "Life isn’t simply good or bad; every Zoi’s journey holds unique meaning. Players are encouraged to explore the karma system to craft diverse stories and uncover life’s many facets."

inZOI Director Honors The Sims’ Legacy

inZOI emerges as a fresh contender in the life simulation genre, yet Director Hyungjun Kim doesn’t see it as a rival to The Sims. Instead, he views it as a complementary experience for fans.

Kim shared, "We see inZOI as an alternative for life sim enthusiasts, not a competitor to The Sims." He expressed admiration, stating, "The Sims has built an incredible legacy, and capturing the depth of life in a game is a complex challenge, given the intricate nature of simulating existence."

inZOI aims to stand out with distinctive features. Kim explained, "Our goal is to let players shape their ideal lives with creative tools. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, inZOI offers realistic visuals, deep customization, and AI-driven creativity, empowering players to bring their visions to life as protagonists in their own worlds."

inZOI Early Access and Live Showcase Details

inZOI’s early access launch date has been confirmed. According to the game’s official website, inZOI will hit Steam in early access on March 28, 2025, at 00:00 UTC, with a global map detailing regional release times.
