Civilization 7 developer Firaxis has rolled out patch 1.0.1 just in time for the strategy game's full launch, following an advanced access period that garnered a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam. Firaxis is actively working to address community feedback, focusing on issues with the user interface, a lack of map variety, and the absence of key features fans have come to expect from the series.
In a recent interview with IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative reviews from both the press and players. However, he remains optimistic, stating that the "legacy Civ audience" will warm up to the game as they spend more time with it. Zelnick described Civilization 7's early performance as "very encouraging."
Now that Civilization 7 is available to everyone, not just those who paid for advanced access, Firaxis has released Patch 2, exclusively for PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck users. In a Steam post, Firaxis announced that this is the first of several upcoming patches aimed at addressing feedback from the advanced access phase. The full patch notes are detailed below.
It's important to note that Firaxis has temporarily disabled crossplay multiplayer to expedite updates for the PC version. This means that patches, including patch 1.0.1, may be deployed at a different pace for PC compared to consoles. However, Firaxis has clarified that this change will not affect console players engaging in cross-platform play with other console players, nor will it impact PC-to-PC multiplayer.

Gameplay

- Fixed an issue causing Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games to be shorter than intended.
- City States will now transition into Friendly Independent Powers during Age Transition instead of disappearing. They will also start with more units in Exploration and Modern Ages.

- Completing the final milestone of a Legacy Path no longer adds Age Progress in the Modern Age, allowing more time to achieve a Victory.
- Towns will automatically revert to Growing focus if they become ineligible for their chosen focus due to population changes.
- Future Civic is now repeatable across all Ages, with increasing costs for repeated Future Tech and Future Civic.
- Fixed an issue where excessive Growth bonuses could result in negative Food requirements for the next growth event.
- Improved Rail Networks to enhance the reliability of Settlements connecting to the Rail Network over water by building Ports, provided the Capital has a Port or is connected by rail to a settlement with one.
- Enhanced the Loyalty Crisis mechanics in the Antiquity Age, including the ability to purchase Villas in towns to manage settlement happiness.
A note about cross-play multiplayer: To expedite updates to the PC experience, patches may be deployed at a different pace than on consoles, including today's Patch 1.0.1. As a result, cross-play between PC and console players is temporarily disabled. This will not impact console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer.
