After 15 years at Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty multiplayer creative director Greg Reisdorf has announced his departure. His tenure spanned numerous Call of Duty titles, beginning with Modern Warfare 3 (2011).
Reisdorf's contributions were significant, starting with his work on Modern Warfare 3, including memorable sequences like Soap's gurney scene in the "Blood Brothers" mission. He played a key role in shaping the "boots on the ground" era of Call of Duty, contributing to the gameplay mechanics of Advanced Warfare (boost jumps, dodging, tactical reloads, unique weapon signatures, and energy weapons). He also designed multiplayer maps for this title. While he acknowledges some design choices, like the "Pick 13" system, weren't without their challenges, his overall impact is undeniable.
His work extended to Call of Duty: WW2, where he helped rectify early issues with the Divisions system, and Call of Duty: Vanguard, where he focused on creating enjoyable, three-lane maps, prioritizing fun gameplay over strict military realism.
Most recently, Reisdorf served as the creative director for the multiplayer component of 2023's Modern Warfare 3. This involved overseeing the development of over 20 post-launch modes, including Season 1's Snowfight and Infectious Holiday modes, and revisiting classic maps from Modern Warfare 2 (2009) with updated details.
Reisdorf's departure marks the end of a long and impactful career at Sledgehammer Games, but he expressed excitement for future opportunities within the gaming industry.
