Launching December 4th (EST/PST), Infinity Nikki, a highly anticipated open-world fashion game, celebrates its journey in a 25-minute documentary. The film showcases the dedication and passion of the development team through interviews.
The project originated in December 2019, when the Nikki series producer envisioned an open-world adventure for Nikki. Secrecy shrouded the early stages, with a separate office used for development. Team recruitment and foundational work spanned over a year.
Game designer Sha Dingyu describes the unique challenge of integrating the established Nikki IP's dress-up mechanics into an open-world setting. This required building a framework from the ground up, a process that took years of research and development.
Despite the hurdles, the team remained committed. The Nikki franchise, starting with NikkiUp2U in 2012, reaches its fifth installment with Infinity Nikki, the first to release on PC and consoles alongside mobile. The team chose to pursue a significant technological and product upgrade rather than simply creating another mobile game, demonstrating their dedication to evolving the Nikki IP. This commitment is symbolized by the producer's clay model of the Grand Millewish Tree, representing the team's passion.
The documentary showcases Miraland's stunning environments, focusing on the Grand Millewish Tree and its inhabitants, the Faewish Sprites. The vibrant world is populated with NPCs who maintain their routines even during gameplay, adding to the immersive experience. Game designer Xiao Li highlights this as a key design element, creating a more realistic and engaging world.
Infinity Nikki's polished visuals are a testament to its talented team. Beyond the core Nikki team, experienced international talent was recruited. Kentaro "Tomiken" Tominaga, Lead Sub Director, previously worked on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and concept artist Andrzej Dybowski contributed his skills to The Witcher 3.
From its official start on December 28th, 2019, to its December 4th, 2024 launch, the team dedicated 1814 days to bringing Infinity Nikki to life. Anticipation is high for this journey through Miraland with Nikki and Momo.
