Elden Ring Nightreign: No In-Game Messaging System
FromSoftware has confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign will not feature an in-game messaging system, a staple of the Soulsborne series. This decision, according to game director Junya Ishizaki, is a practical one. The fast-paced, multiplayer-focused design of Nightreign, with anticipated play sessions of around 40 minutes, leaves insufficient time for players to read and write messages.
The asynchronous messaging system, a key element of player interaction and community building in previous titles, will be absent. This system, allowing players to leave messages for one another, whether helpful or mischievous, has become a beloved part of the Soulsborne experience.
However, Nightreign will retain and enhance other asynchronous features. The bloodstain mechanic, allowing players to observe and even loot the ghosts of fallen players, will return, significantly improved.
FromSoftware's vision for Nightreign is a "compressed RPG," prioritizing intense, multiplayer-focused gameplay with minimal downtime. This is reflected in the game's planned three-day structure and the omission of the messaging system. The goal is a more streamlined and consistently engaging experience.
While the game's reveal trailer at TGA 2024 targeted a 2025 release, a specific launch window remains unannounced.
