Bloober Team Sets Ambitious Goals for Silent Hill 2 Remake

Bloober Team, riding high on the success of their Silent Hill 2 remake, aims to solidify their position in the horror genre. Following overwhelmingly positive reception from critics and gamers, the studio is keen to prove their recent triumph wasn't a fluke. Their next project, Cronos: The New Dawn, represents a significant step forward.

The team is actively distancing itself from the Silent Hill 2 remake's shadow. Game Designer Wojciech Piejko explicitly stated in a Gamespot interview that Cronos is a distinct departure, development beginning in 2021, shortly after The Medium's release. Director Jacek Zieba describes Cronos as the "second punch" in a one-two combo, with the Silent Hill 2 remake serving as the first, highlighting their underdog status and the initial skepticism surrounding their involvement in the project. Zieba emphasizes the monumental achievement of delivering a successful Silent Hill title, exceeding expectations and garnering an 86 Metacritic score.

Bloober Team views Cronos: The New Dawn as a testament to their capabilities, showcasing their ability to create compelling original IP. The game features time travel mechanics, with the player navigating the past and future to save individuals and alter a dystopian future ravaged by pandemic and mutation. Leveraging the experience gained from the Silent Hill 2 remake, Bloober Team aims to transcend the limitations of their earlier works, like Layers of Fear and Observer, incorporating enhanced gameplay elements. Zieba credits the Silent Hill project as a foundational element in Cronos's pre-production.

The studio positions Cronos as a pivotal moment, marking their evolution into "Bloober Team 3.0." Encouraged by the positive response to both the Cronos reveal trailer and the Silent Hill 2 remake, the team is confident in their new direction. Their ambition is clear: to establish themselves as a leading name in horror game development, focusing on their strengths and continuing to evolve within the genre. Both Piejko and Zieba emphasize the team's passion for horror and their unwavering commitment to remaining within that niche.
