Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Phenomenal Debut: A Million Copies Sold in 24 Hours
A Resounding Success Across Platforms
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has experienced a spectacular launch, achieving both critical acclaim and impressive sales figures across all platforms. Warhorse Studios proudly announced on Twitter (X) that the game surpassed one million copies sold within its first 24 hours on February 4th, 2025 – a feat significantly outpacing its predecessor, which took over nine days to reach the same milestone.
SteamDB data reveals that KCD2 concurrently boasted 176,285 players within a six-hour window, eclipsing KCD1's peak of 96,069 players. At the time of writing, KCD2 held the 12th position among all PlayStation games in the U.S. on the PS Store homepage. OpenCritic awarded the game a "Mighty" rating, boasting an 89 score and a 97% critic recommendation rate.
Addressing Critical Feedback and Online Backlash
Despite the overwhelmingly positive response from fans and critics, KCD2 has not been without its detractors. Creative Director Daniel Vávra addressed some negative reviews on Twitter (X), highlighting discrepancies between the game's overall rating on OpenCritic and certain individual reviews which characterized gameplay as a "slog" or overly demanding. Vávra responded to these criticisms, subtly questioning the journalistic integrity of the outlets involved.
Furthermore, Vávra actively countered online attacks targeting KCD2's inclusion of same-sex romance options. He publicly challenged Metacritic user reviews that labeled the game as "historically inaccurate DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) propaganda," urging fans to review the game and report any automated negative comments. He reiterated that the LGBTQ+ content is entirely optional and depends solely on player choices within the game's expansive open-world medieval setting.
