Stray Kite Studios Unveils "Wartorn," a Real-Time Strategy Roguelite

Stray Kite Studios, a Dallas-based developer boasting veterans from renowned studios like BioShock, Borderlands, and Age of Empires, has announced its first original title: Wartorn. This real-time strategy roguelite, slated for a Spring 2025 Early Access release on Steam and the Epic Games Store, promises a unique blend of tactical gameplay and compelling narrative.

Wartorn casts players into a fractured fantasy world, following the journey of two elven sisters striving for family reunification. Their quest will be fraught with peril, demanding strategic combat prowess and challenging moral dilemmas.

Dynamic Destruction and Moral Choices Define Gameplay

The game’s chaotic nature extends beyond its war-torn setting. Wartorn features physics-driven environmental destruction, ensuring no two playthroughs are identical. Combat is equally dynamic, incorporating a flexible magic system that allows players to creatively combine elemental forces (fire, water, lightning) for strategic advantages. Imagine shocking enemies submerged in water or igniting tar-covered foes – the possibilities are endless.

Between battles, players face difficult choices, impacting the narrative and shaping subsequent playthroughs. Decisions like choosing whom to save or feed will directly influence the unfolding story, enhancing replayability.

“We’ve poured our hearts into creating a game that not only entertains but also makes players think deeply about sacrifice, survival, and the bonds that unite us,” shares Paul Hellquist, co-founder and creative director at Stray Kite Studios.

Accessible Roguelite Progression and Painterly Aesthetics

Wartorn incorporates a satisfying roguelite progression system, with upgrades carrying over between runs. The game's painterly art style adds a dramatic visual flair to the immersive world. For maximum accessibility, a slow-motion feature allows for precise command input during the heat of battle.

The Early Access launch on Steam and the Epic Games Store is planned for Spring 2025. Prepare for a challenging yet rewarding experience that blends strategic depth with a compelling narrative arc.
