There was a strong effort by Insomniac Games to develop Resistance 4, but unfortunately, the project did not receive approval.
Insomniac Games' founder and outgoing president, Ted Price, is now giving interviews following the announcement of his retirement after 30 years leading the studio. In a recent chat with Kinda Funny Games, Price was asked about his favorite game concept that was pitched but never realized. His response was clear:
"Yeah, I’ll share one. Resistance 4."
According to Price, the team at Insomniac pitched the concept, which they found to be compelling. However, due to timing and market opportunities, it did not come to fruition. He expressed that the team was passionate about expanding the Resistance story further, noting, "I do believe that Resistance has set up a really cool alternate history base where anything can happen with the Chimera and where they go and what their origins are."
Resistance is a series of first-person shooter games developed by Insomniac, which followed their work on the Ratchet and Clank series. The games are set in an alternate history where aliens invade the UK in 1951. Three Resistance titles were released, all for the PlayStation 3, before Insomniac shifted focus to other projects such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank games.
Earlier this year, Price announced his retirement from Insomniac Games after over 30 years with the company. He named Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang as the new Co-Studio Heads who will succeed him.
Insomniac Games' most recent release was Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which has just been made available on PC. Their next project is set to be Marvel’s Wolverine.
