The dedicated DOOM community continues to push boundaries, showcasing the game's adaptability across diverse platforms. A recent achievement highlights this ingenuity: NyanSatan successfully ran the classic DOOM on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter.
This feat was accomplished by exploiting the adapter's iOS-based firmware and its integrated processor (clocked up to 168 MHz). NyanSatan accessed the firmware, then executed the game, utilizing a MacBook to overcome the adapter's lack of internal memory for file transfer.
A new DOOM iteration is also in the works, promising increased accessibility. DOOM: The Dark Ages will allow players to significantly adjust the game's difficulty. This focus on accessibility is a core development principle. The game will boast far more customization options than previous id Software titles.
Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasized the studio's commitment to accessibility. Players will be able to fine-tune enemy damage and overall difficulty, projectile speed and damage output, and other key aspects like game pace, enemy aggression, and parry timing.
Stratton further confirmed that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't required to understand the storylines of either DOOM: The Dark Ages or DOOM: Eternal.
