Bandai Namco's Blue Protocol, initially slated for a global release, will cease operations. The Japanese servers, which launched in June 2023, are scheduled to shut down January 18, 2025, effectively canceling the worldwide launch planned in partnership with Amazon Games. This decision stems from Bandai Namco's inability to deliver a consistently satisfying player experience.
Blue Protocol's Global Release Cancelled: Japan Servers Shutting Down
Player Compensation and Final Updates
Bandai Namco's official statement cites the challenge of maintaining a service meeting player expectations as the reason for the shutdown. Disappointment at the inability to proceed with the global release alongside Amazon Games was also expressed.
To compensate players, Bandai Namco will provide 5,000 Rose Orbs monthly (starting September 2024) and 250 daily until the game's closure. Rose Orb purchases and refunds will be unavailable. Furthermore, Season 9's pass is now free, and the final update (Chapter 7) is set for December 18, 2024. The company plans to continue supporting the game with updates and new content until its final day.
The game's initial Japanese launch attracted over 200,000 concurrent players. However, ongoing server issues and declining player numbers ultimately led to this decision. Bandai Namco's March 31, 2024 financial report indicated the game's underperformance, foreshadowing this outcome. Despite a promising start, Blue Protocol failed to meet the company's financial targets and sustain player engagement.
