Warhorse Studios confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) will launch DRM-free. Despite online speculation, the medieval RPG will not utilize any digital rights management (DRM) technology.
Warhorse Studios Addresses DRM Concerns
Recent rumors suggested KCD2 would include DRM, prompting Warhorse Studios PR head Tobias Stolz-Zwilling to clarify the situation during a Twitch stream. He explicitly stated that the game will not use Denuvo or any other DRM system. Stolz-Zwilling attributed the confusion to misinformation and urged players to cease inquiries about DRM. He emphasized that any unconfirmed information circulating online is inaccurate.
The absence of DRM is welcome news for many gamers. DRM has often been criticized for negatively impacting game performance, particularly Denuvo, which is also used as anti-piracy software. While Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, attributes the negative perception to misinformation and confirmation bias, the controversy remains.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, set in medieval Bohemia, follows Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, as he confronts a devastating event in his village. The game launches in February 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Kickstarter backers who pledged at least $200 will receive a free copy.
