Second Dinner, a California-based studio, developed the game, but it is published by Nuverse, a ByteDance subsidiary. Consequently, Marvel Snap was removed alongside other apps such as CapCut and Lemon8. On January 18, 2025, the game became unavailable on both iOS and Android platforms.
While many players are reporting authorization issues, PC users can still access it on Steam. The developers at Second Dinner were taken aback by the situation and stated they are actively working to restore the game. An official statement on Platform X confirmed:
“Marvel Snap is here to stay. We are striving to bring the game back online as soon as possible and will keep players updated on our progress.”
A particularly frustrating aspect was the lack of prior notification. Many players were unaware of the impending restriction and continued making in-game purchases.
In addition to Marvel Snap, other ByteDance apps—though not all—were affected by the restriction. For example, Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain accessible.
We previously covered the recent introduction of an Ongoing card named Moonstone. As part of a wave of potential meta-disruptors, Moonstone is a much-needed addition to Marvel Snap's Ongoing archetype. As an Ongoing card with 4 Energy and 6 Power, she can adopt the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards at her location.
Given the variety of low-cost Ongoing cards already in Marvel Snap, the pool of effects she can copy is considerable. The key difference is that while most low-cost Ongoing cards, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, primarily use their effects to boost power, Moonstone can rapidly accumulate strength because she gains those effects without additional cost.
