The Tekken 8 community has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the controversial changes introduced in the Season 2 update.
According to the patch notes, character damage potential and offensive pressure have been universally increased, leading some players to argue that Tekken 8 is shifting away from its traditional roots.
Professional Tekken player JoKa stated that the Season 2 update makes the game feel completely different from previous Tekken titles.
“Even minor character buffs are not the right direction, especially when combined with more stance-based transitions that enhance 50/50 situations. Some of the newly added moves are overwhelming, offering little to no counterplay. Addressing character weaknesses through homogenization, rather than strategic adjustments, comes across as lazy balancing. The changes to oki and the buffs to the heat system are difficult to understand. Combo damage across the entire roster is excessively high. While sidestepping feels improved, it doesn't matter much when many moves have extreme tracking and hitboxes. Chip damage remains excessive, with most heat smashes unchanged. Emphasizing 50/50 scenarios over strategic depth makes the gameplay less interesting and strays from Tekken's core principles.
“What happened to the defensive options that were promised?”
Tekken 8 has now received the highest number of negative reviews in a single day since the Tekken Shop launched a year ago byu/YourGameTVlol inTekken
As expected, players are venting their frustrations on Tekken 8’s Steam page. The game has been flooded with negative reviews (over 1,100 in the last two days), resulting in a 'mostly negative' recent user review rating.
“A genuinely solid game undermined by perplexing developer decisions,” reads the current top-rated review.
“With the new season, every character has been turned into a simplified mix-up machine, with no improvements to defensive options,” says another review.
“Despite earlier promises to enhance defensive gameplay, the balance team has further strengthened offensive mechanics, reducing the defending player's ability to respond,” another negative review states.
“Not every character should constantly force 50/50 canned mix-ups, but it seems the balance team lacks alternative ideas for character design. It's disappointing to see another legacy fighting game defined by relentless offense, leaving defenders with limited options.”
Some dedicated Tekken fans are so frustrated that they are switching to Capcom’s Street Fighter 6. Many are calling Season 2 the “worst patch in Tekken's history,” with several professional players considering leaving Tekken 8 entirely.
I'm not sure if I'll continue playing Tekken if these changes remain. I apologize for the negative tone, but I had hoped the update would improve the game. Honestly, I feel disheartened. Even depressed. I streamed 70 hours of Tekken last week to prepare for Season 2, only to have my expectations shattered. Goodnight.

The community is now urging the development team to address their concerns. Some are calling for a complete rollback of the patch, while others are hoping for an emergency update to implement crucial adjustments.
