Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's Patch 4.0 nerfs are being rolled back after player outcry. A hotfix, Patch 4.1, is scheduled for October 24th, reversing the most significant balance changes. This decision follows negative player feedback and review bombing on Steam.

Public Test Servers Coming in 2025

The developers, Saber Interactive, announced the upcoming implementation of public test servers, targeting early 2025, to gather player feedback before future updates. This move is a direct response to the controversy surrounding Patch 4.0.

The studio explained that Patch 4.0 aimed to increase enemy numbers, rather than boosting their health, to address concerns about the game's perceived ease, even on the highest difficulty. However, this negatively impacted lower difficulty levels.

Patch 4.1 will significantly reduce Extremis enemy spawn rates on Minimal, Average, and Substantial difficulties, reverting them to pre-Patch 4.0 levels. On Ruthless difficulty, these spawn rates will be considerably decreased. Additionally, player armor will receive a 10% boost on Ruthless, and bots will deal 30% more damage to bosses.

Bolt Weapon Buffs in Hotfix 4.1

The hotfix also includes substantial buffs to Bolt weapons, addressing their underperformance across all difficulties. The specific damage increases are as follows:

  • Auto Bolt Rifle: +20%
  • Bolt Rifle: +10%
  • Heavy Bolt Rifle: +15%
  • Stalker Bolt Rifle: +10%
  • Marksman Bolt Carbine: +10%
  • Instigator Bolt Carbine: +10%
  • Bolt Sniper Rifle: +12.5%
  • Bolt Carbine: +15%
  • Occulus Bolt Carbine: +15%
  • Heavy Bolter: +5% (x2)

Saber Interactive will continue monitoring player feedback after Patch 4.1's release to ensure the game's difficulty remains appropriately challenging.
