This collaboration puts a temporary pause on Hopoo Games' current projects, notably the unannounced title "Snail." While the nature of this transition remains unclear – whether temporary or permanent – Drummond and Morse's LinkedIn profiles still list their roles at Hopoo Games. The studio expressed gratitude for its decade-long partnership with Valve and excitement for contributing to Valve's upcoming projects.

Founded in 2012, Hopoo Games gained recognition with the original Risk of Rain. Following the success of its 2019 sequel, Risk of Rain 2, the studio sold the IP to Gearbox in 2022. Drummond recently expressed confidence in Gearbox's handling of the franchise, specifically praising the direction of the recently released Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm DLC.

Valve's "Deadlock" and the Half-Life 3 Speculation

While the specifics of Hopoo Games' contribution to Valve remain undisclosed, the move fuels ongoing speculation about Half-Life 3. Valve's current major project, the MOBA hero shooter "Deadlock," is still in early access. This speculation intensified recently when a voice actor's portfolio briefly mentioned a Valve project codenamed "Project White Sands," before being quickly removed. Eurogamer reported on fan theories linking "White Sands" to Half-Life 3, citing the possible connection between "White Sands" (a New Mexico park) and Black Mesa (the setting for the original Half-Life and its remake). The situation leaves the gaming community eagerly awaiting further announcements from both Valve and Hopoo Games.
