"It's about providing players with constant opportunities to express themselves and explore their character's alignment," Patel explains. She further highlights the game's focus on player engagement, prompting players to consider their motivations and reactions throughout the game.
Patel notes that player choices and outcomes are heavily influenced by exploration and discovery within Eora's intricate world, specifically within The Living Lands, where political power is fiercely contested. The interwoven narratives of these worlds add depth to the experience.
Players assume the role of an Aedyran Empire envoy, tasked with investigating a spiritual plague while simultaneously pursuing their own political ambitions. "Meaningful roleplay comes from giving players rich content to explore," Patel explains. "It's about defining who your character is and letting the game's situations allow them to express that."
Beyond the complex RPG mechanics, Avowed features strategic combat blending magic, swords, and firearms. Weapon and ability choices significantly impact each playthrough, guaranteeing diverse experiences.
Furthermore, Patel confirms a multitude of endings, each a unique culmination of player choices. "We have a double-digit number of ending slides, with many possible combinations," she reveals. True to Obsidian's style, the final outcome directly reflects the player's actions and discoveries throughout the game.
