Deadlock Announced Major Update In Months
Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes

Deadlock's latest major update simplifies its map structure by converting the four lanes into three, alongside numerous other adjustments to the game. On February 26, 2025, Valve shared comprehensive details about the map rework and mechanic changes via a Steam post.
The update includes a comprehensive redesign, transforming the four lanes into three and introducing "a large range of accompanying map-wide changes regarding visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, etc." Deadlock, already distinctive in the MOBA genre for its third-person perspective, found that the addition of a fourth lane to the traditional three-lane setup may have overly complicated the gameplay.
Moreover, the update modifies the farming of enemy troopers, eliminating the need for last-hitting to summon Soul Orbs, thus simplifying early laning phases. The patch notes also mention enhancements to the game’s netcode and client performance, promising a smoother gaming experience.
Vital Update for Deadlock

This update could be the revitalization Deadlock needs to re-engage its community. Following a peak of 171,490 active players in September 2024, the game experienced a sharp 90% decline, with only around 17,000 players active in the past month.
In January 2025, Valve Developer Yoshi announced on Deadlock’s Discord server that the update schedule would change. The previous two-week cycle hindered the implementation of desired changes. Yoshi stated, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."
