Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Guide

Citizen Sleeper 2 presents players with three distinct starting classes: Operator, Machinist, and Extractor. The optimal choice hinges on your preferred playstyle. This guide offers insights into each class, considering both their abilities and roleplaying potential.

Operator

The Operator begins with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skills. Endure is not a viable skill path. Their unique ability allows for Stress expenditure to re-roll their lowest die.

While powerful later, the Operator can struggle initially. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't a guaranteed success. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers flexibility, adaptable to various character concepts.

Machinist

The Machinist starts with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and lacks Endure. Engage is not upgradeable. Their ability trades Stress for a +2 bonus to their lowest die, also reducing Stress upon a positive outcome. This ability significantly improves with progression.

The Machinist proved exceptionally useful during my first playthrough. The ability to mitigate Stress and bolster dice rolls is invaluable. The starting skillset aligns well with frequent Engineer and Interface checks. This class is ideal for players focused on the game's technical and mechanical aspects.

Extractor

The Extractor begins with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, but lacks Interface. Intuit is not upgradeable. Their ability allows Stress expenditure to add +2 to the lowest die of their crew, with upgrades enhancing crew member rolls.

The Extractor's ability is highly effective for managing Contract risks. The Endure bonus is advantageous, given the frequent Endure checks. However, crew members often possess Endure and Engage skills, potentially leading to skill redundancy. This class suits players who prefer a more physically-focused, rugged character.

This guide provides a comprehensive overview to aid your class selection in Citizen Sleeper 2.
