Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting!
The highly anticipated Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 has arrived, and the player response has been phenomenal, especially regarding the modding scene. The sheer volume of mods is staggering.
Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke announced on X (formerly Twitter) that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of Patch 7's September 5th release. He described the modding community's impact as "pretty big." This figure was later surpassed; mod.io founder Scott Reismanis reported over 3 million installs and counting.

Patch 7's success is fueled by several factors. It includes new evil endings, improved split-screen, and Larian's official Mod Manager. This in-game tool simplifies mod browsing, installation, and management. Separate modding tools, accessible via Steam, utilize Larian's Osiris scripting language, allowing for custom story creation, script loading, and basic debugging, with direct publishing options.

Further expanding modding capabilities, a community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked" (by modder Siegfre on Nexus) unlocks a full level editor and reactivates previously disabled features in Larian's editor. While Larian has been cautious about providing complete access to its development tools, Vincke clarified their focus remains on game development, not tool creation.
Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon
Larian is actively developing cross-platform modding support, a significant undertaking given the complexities of ensuring compatibility across PC and consoles. Vincke confirmed PC support will launch first, followed by console support after addressing potential issues.

Beyond modding, Patch 7 delivers numerous improvements: refined UI, new animations, expanded dialogue options, and substantial bug fixes and performance enhancements. With future updates planned, Larian's commitment to the modding community and ongoing game improvements is clear.
