The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3 captivated gamers, the first trailer for Witcher 4 has dropped, introducing Ciri as the new protagonist.
As fans will remember, Ciri is Geralt's adopted daughter. With Geralt's trilogy concluded, the spotlight shifts to the next generation. The teaser showcases Ciri intervening in a village gripped by superstition, where a young woman is about to be sacrificed to a monster. Ciri's attempt to rescue the woman reveals a far more complex situation.
An official release date for Witcher 4 remains elusive. Considering the development times of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077 (even longer), and the early stage of Witcher 4's production, a 3-4 year timeframe seems plausible.
While platforms haven't been confirmed, given the anticipated release window, a current-generation console focus is likely. However, no platform exclusivity has been declared. Simultaneous releases on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC are anticipated. A Switch port, unlike Witcher 3, seems unlikely, though a potential Switch 2 version remains a possibility.
Gameplay details are scarce, but CD Projekt Red is expected to maintain the core gameplay mechanics of the franchise. The CGI trailer hints at returning elements like potions, signs, and combat. Ciri's chain, used for both trapping monsters and channeling magic, might be a notable new addition.
Voice actor Doug Cockle (Geralt) previously confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, albeit in a supporting role, fueling speculation of a mentor-like figure for Ciri.
