Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile game, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its release. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, and servers will officially shut down on October 21st, 2024.
The reasons for the closure remain unannounced, although NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division (which also handled Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in company strategy.
The status of in-game purchases remains unclear. While refunds for spent currency and items haven't been confirmed, Warner Bros. and NetherRealm promise further updates soon. Follow their official X (formerly Twitter) account for announcements regarding refunds.
Launched in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the Mortal Kombat series. Unlike previous fighting-focused titles, it blended action-adventure combat with a cinematic storyline, similar to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. Players teamed up with Raiden to prevent the fallen Elder God Shinnok from regaining his power.
