Lost Soul Aside ditches PSN account linking for its PC release

Lost Soul Aside, a Sony-published action RPG slated for a 2025 PC release, has reportedly dropped the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market, allowing Sony to sell the title in over 100 countries previously inaccessible due to PSN's limited regional support.

Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside is a highly anticipated title emerging from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash game, in development for nearly nine years, will launch on both PS5 and PC. Sony's initial mandate for PSN account linking on PC releases last year sparked considerable player backlash.

The removal of this requirement for Lost Soul Aside's PC version was seemingly confirmed after its Steam page went live. While initially listed as requiring a PSN account, the SteamDB update history shows this stipulation was removed within a day.

Lost Soul Aside Steam Page Update

This marks only the second instance of Sony reversing its PSN account linking policy for PC games, following a similar reversal for Helldivers 2. This suggests a potential shift in Sony's approach to PC releases, moving away from the previously seemingly inflexible requirement.

While Sony's reasoning remains unclear, the decision likely aims to maximize Lost Soul Aside's player base and sales. The poor PC performance of some PSN-linked PlayStation titles, like God of War Ragnarok, which saw significantly fewer players than its predecessor, may have influenced this change. The removal of the PSN requirement for Lost Soul Aside opens up a much wider market and could indicate a more player-centric approach from Sony for future PC releases.
