Hazelight Games has announced that their latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, is off to a phenomenal start, having sold 2 million copies within just one week of its release. Launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game has quickly cemented its place as another triumph for the studio. Hazelight expressed their gratitude on social media, stating they are "blown away" by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
The studio previously shared that Split Fiction reached 1 million sales just 48 hours after its debut, showcasing the rapid popularity of Mio and Zoe's sci-fi narrative. This means an additional million copies were sold in the subsequent five days, highlighting the game's sustained appeal.
As a co-op game, Split Fiction likely boasts a player base significantly larger than the number of units sold, thanks to its innovative Friend's Pass feature. This allows one player to buy the game and invite a friend to play for free, further amplifying its reach. With the game continuing to generate buzz on social media, the sales figures are expected to climb even higher.
Hazelight's previous success, 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, followed a similar trajectory. It sold approximately 1 million copies shortly after its March 2021 launch, eventually reaching 10 million copies by February 2023 and an impressive 20 million by October 2024.
In IGN's review of Split Fiction, the game was praised as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another," underscoring its dynamic and engaging gameplay experience.
