Star Wars Outlaws has received its first story expansion with the launch of the "A Pirate’s Fortune" DLC on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Fans can thank one particularly sly character for this new content: the roguish pirate Hondo Ohnaka.
According to Drew Rechner, Creative Director at Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment, the inspiration for the DLC came directly from the team's deep affection for Hondo Ohnaka. The Weequay pirate has appeared in the Darth Maul comics and the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
"We always knew that with so many passionate fans of Hondo on our team, we had to include him. The combination of Kay's scoundrel aspirations with Hondo's pirate persona just felt like a perfect fit," Rechner explained to IGN.
"We also understood that this part of Kay's journey involves her stepping into a leadership role. The idea of having someone like Hondo as a potential mentor—or is he truly one?—presented some really intriguing narrative possibilities."
The DLC introduces a fresh adventure centered on the criminal Rokana Raiders and the Miyuki Trade League. The latter can provide Kay with upgrades for her Trailblazer ship, while a new 'Shock' capability is added to her blaster.
Star Wars Outlaws is also set for release on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4. While Rechner declined to elaborate on whether the new platform would add unique features, he did confirm more information is forthcoming.
"Regarding any specific feature set for the platform, we'll delve into that later. We have more details to share in the near future," he said.
The game could potentially utilize rumored Switch 2 features, such as controllers with mouse-like functionality and a new GameChat capability.
