Pokémon TCG Sees Trainer's Pokémon Return in 2025The Pokémon Company made a splash at the 2024 Pokémon World Championships with exciting announcements for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), including the highly anticipated return of classic mechanics in 2025.

Nostalgia Returns: Trainer's Pokémon and Team Rocket Cards

Official Release Date Still Under Wraps

The comeback of "Trainer's Pokémon" cards was a highlight of the event. A teaser trailer showcased beloved trainers like Marnie, Lillie, and N, alongside their Pokémon partners, hinting at the return of Team Rocket cards as well. This nostalgic feature, a staple of the early TCG, featured Pokémon uniquely tied to specific trainers, boasting unique abilities and artwork. The trailer previewed Lillie’s Clefairy ex, Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, N’s Zoroark ex, and N’s Reshiram.

The teaser also included a brief glimpse of Mewtwo alongside the Team Rocket symbol, fueling speculation about a dedicated Team Rocket set or even the return of Dark Pokémon, another popular early mechanic closely associated with the villainous team. These darker, more aggressive versions of familiar Pokémon were a fan favorite.

Rumors of Team Rocket's TCG return have circulated, with reports surfacing from Japanese retailers and a trademark filing by The Pokémon Company ("The Glory of Team Rocket"). While unconfirmed, the possibility remains strong.

Paradise Dragona Set Debuts

Pokémon TCG Sees Trainer's Pokémon Return in 2025The World Championships also unveiled the first cards from the upcoming Paradise Dragona set, a Japanese expansion focusing on Dragon-type Pokémon. PokeBeach reported previews of Latias, Latios, Exeggcute, and Alolan Exeggutor ex. These cards are slated for a November 2024 English release as part of the Surging Sparks set.

Meanwhile, the current TCG wave continues with the upcoming release of Shrouded Fable, concluding the Kitikami chapter. The Pokémon TCG blog details Shrouded Fable's 99 cards: 64 main cards and 35 secret rare cards. Fans eagerly await further official details on these exciting upcoming releases.
