Obsidian Entertainment's CEO, Feargus Urquhart, has publicly expressed his strong desire to develop a game based on Microsoft's Shadowrun IP. This follows a recent interview where he was asked about his interest in non-Fallout Xbox properties.

While Obsidian is currently working on titles like Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, Urquhart revealed Shadowrun as his top choice among available Microsoft IPs. He cited his long-standing love for the franchise, owning multiple editions of the tabletop RPG.
Obsidian's history is rich with successful work on established RPG franchises, including Fallout: New Vegas. This experience, coupled with their proven ability to create original worlds (e.g., The Outer Worlds), makes them a strong contender for developing a new Shadowrun game. Urquhart previously highlighted the advantages of working on sequels within the RPG genre, emphasizing the potential for expanding existing worlds and narratives.

The Shadowrun franchise, originating as a tabletop RPG in 1989, boasts a complex history and numerous video game adaptations. While Harebrained Schemes has released several Shadowrun games recently, including remastered versions in 2022, a new, original title is highly anticipated by fans. The last standalone entry, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, was released in 2015.

The possibility of Obsidian taking on this project excites fans, suggesting a potentially high-quality and faithful adaptation of the cyberpunk-fantasy world.
