Capcom Will Continue Reviving Classic IPs

Capcom's Past IP Revivals Will Continue

In a press release dated December 13, Capcom announced the revival of the Onimusha and Okami franchises. The company is dedicated to delivering high-quality content by revisiting its rich catalog of past IPs.

The upcoming Onimusha installment is slated for release in 2026 and will be set during the Edo period in Kyoto. Meanwhile, a sequel to Okami is also in development, with the original game's directors and team at the helm, though its release date remains undisclosed.

Capcom's Past IP Revivals Will Continue

“Capcom is committed to revitalizing dormant IPs that have not seen new releases in recent years,” the company stated. “By tapping into our extensive library of content, we aim to enhance our corporate value through the creation of high-quality, efficient titles, including the revival of series like Onimusha and Okami.”

Alongside these revivals, Capcom is also advancing with new titles such as Monster Hunter Wilds and Capcom Fighting Collection 2, both expected in 2025. Despite focusing on past IPs, Capcom continues to innovate with recent releases like Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and Exoprimal.

Capcom’s Super Elections Might Reveal Future Titles

Capcom's Past IP Revivals Will Continue

In February 2024, Capcom conducted a “Super Election” where fans voted on their favorite characters and desired sequels. The results highlighted strong interest in sequels and remakes for series like Dino Crisis, Darkstalkers, Onimusha, and Breath of Fire.

Dino Crisis and Darkstalkers have been largely neglected since their last releases in 1997 and 2003, respectively. Breath of Fire 6, an online RPG, was launched in July 2016 but was discontinued in September 2017. These long-dormant franchises are prime candidates for revival.

While Capcom has not confirmed which IPs will be next in line for revival, the “Super Elections” results could offer clues. Fans also voted for Onimusha and Okami, indicating a strong desire to see these series return.
