New Call of Duty Tweet Sparks Outrage Amidst Ongoing Hacking Issues

Call of Duty Faces Backlash for Prioritizing Store Bundles Over Game Issues

Activision's recent promotion of a new Squid Game-themed store bundle has ignited a firestorm of criticism from the Call of Duty community. The tweet, boasting over 2 million views and countless angry replies, highlights a growing disconnect between the developer and its player base. The outrage stems from Activision's perceived prioritization of in-game purchases over addressing critical issues plaguing both Warzone and Black Ops 6.

Both titles are currently grappling with significant problems, most notably rampant cheating in Ranked Play modes. This, coupled with persistent server issues and other gameplay disruptions, has led to a sharp decline in player numbers on Steam, with over 47% of Black Ops 6 players abandoning the platform since its October 2024 launch. Prominent players, including Scump, have publicly voiced their concerns, stating the franchise is in its worst state yet.

The January 8th tweet, promoting the VIP bundle, was seen by many as tone-deaf. Influential figures like FaZe Swagg urged Activision to "read the room," echoing widespread sentiment that addressing game-breaking issues should take precedence over new cosmetic purchases. CharlieIntel highlighted the severity of the Ranked Play problems, while other users, such as Taeskii, pledged boycotts of store bundles until anti-cheat measures are improved.

The dwindling player count on Steam serves as a stark indicator of the community's frustration. While platform-specific player numbers for PlayStation and Xbox remain undisclosed, the significant Steam exodus strongly suggests widespread dissatisfaction with the current state of the game. The overwhelming negative response underscores the urgent need for Activision to address the core gameplay issues affecting Call of Duty before further alienating its player base.
