Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Delivery Not Guaranteed Due to High Demand

Nintendo has issued a crucial update for U.S. fans eagerly awaiting the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. The company has announced that it cannot guarantee delivery by the console's launch date of June 5 due to high demand. This follows a similar warning issued to customers in Japan, where Nintendo stated it would struggle to meet the demand for the new console.

In a statement on its website, Nintendo expressed gratitude to those who registered their interest in purchasing a Switch 2 through the My Nintendo Store. However, due to the overwhelming enthusiasm, they cautioned that invitation emails for purchasing might arrive after the console's launch. Nintendo assured that shipping dates would be confirmed upon purchase.

To increase the chances of obtaining a Switch 2 at launch, Nintendo suggested pre-ordering from third-party retailers. However, this advice comes at a time when the Switch 2 has already sold out at many of these outlets following the opening of pre-orders. The difficulty fans experienced when trying to pre-order the Switch 2 on April 24, combined with Nintendo's latest warnings, suggests that securing a Switch 2 at launch will be challenging. Earlier this week, Nintendo's President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that 2.2 million people in Japan alone had applied to pre-order the Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store, far exceeding the company's expectations and available stock for the launch date.

According to an FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitations for the U.S. My Nintendo Store will begin on May 8, 2025, with additional batches sent out periodically until purchasing is open to everyone. These initial invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Those invited will have 72 hours to complete their purchase.

To be eligible for priority invitations, customers must have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership, maintained it for at least 12 months, and opted into sharing gameplay data with at least 50 hours of total gameplay.

Last week, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. would begin on April 24, 2025, maintaining the original price of $449.99 and the launch date of June 5. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will remain priced at $499.99, and the pricing for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) will stay the same at launch.
