PS5 Price Rises Again in Europe, Australia, New Zealand

Jun 14,2025 Author: Nicholas

Sony has announced an increase in the recommended retail prices (RRPs) for PlayStation 5 consoles across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. This decision comes in response to what the company describes as “a challenging economic environment,” including ongoing inflationary pressures and fluctuating exchange rates.

The update was officially confirmed through a post on the PlayStation Blog, ensuring transparency with consumers about the upcoming changes.

New PS5 Recommended Retail Prices (Effective April 14)

  • Europe: PS5 Digital Edition – €500 (No change for the standard PS5 with disc drive)
  • UK: PS5 Digital Edition – £430 (No change for the standard PS5 with disc drive)
  • Australia: Standard PS5 with disc drive – AUD $830; PS5 Digital Edition – AUD $750
  • New Zealand: Standard PS5 with disc drive – NZD $950; PS5 Digital Edition – NZD $860

Notably, the PS5 Pro remains unaffected by this price adjustment and retains its current RRP.

Price Increases Since Launch

This isn’t the first time Sony has adjusted PS5 pricing. Following similar RRP increases implemented back in 2022, the console is now significantly more expensive in many regions compared to its original launch price.

  • Europe: The PS5 Digital Edition is now €100 more expensive than its initial release price of €400.
  • UK: The digital model has increased by £70 since launch, rising from £360 to £430.
  • Australia: The standard PS5 with disc drive has gone up by AUD $80 (from AUD $750), while the Digital Edition has jumped by AUD $150 (from AUD $600).
  • New Zealand: The standard PS5 is now NZD $130 more expensive than its launch price of NZD $820. The Digital Edition has seen an even steeper increase of NZD $210, up from NZD $650.

PS5 Disc Drive Price Reduction

In contrast to the overall price hikes, the standalone RRP for the PS5 disc drive is being lowered in select markets:

  • Europe – €80
  • UK – £70
  • Australia – AUD $125
  • New Zealand – NZD $140

This strategic move may aim to support gamers looking to expand or upgrade their existing PS5 setup without purchasing a new full console unit.
