Stellar Mercenaries has undergone a significant transformation with its latest update, the Jupiter Expansion. This expansion intensifies the gameplay experience by almost doubling the content available, introducing players to new worlds, enemies, and missions. For those unfamiliar with Stellar Mercenaries, it’s a vertically scrolling action arcade space shooter where players embark on procedurally generated missions, tailor their ships and weaponry, and rise to become the most feared mercenaries in the solar system.
The Jupiter Expansion thrusts players into the heart of the solar system, making Jupiter and its renowned moons—Ganymede, Io, and Europa—prime battlegrounds. Each location presents unique challenges: Ganymede is a desolate wasteland, Io brims with volcanic activity, Europa is icy and perilous, while Jupiter boasts turbulent storms.
Two new factions have been introduced to the fray. The Jovian Empire, a formidable military presence aiming to secure the area, clashes against the Pirate Council, a disorganized coalition of rogues.
The expansion also adds 50 fresh missions with innovative objectives. Players can engage in hyperspace pursuits, piracy operations, escort assignments, and even training defense missions.
Six new ships join the fleet: Raider, Goblin, Mako, Boxer, Lightning, and Skybreaker. Additionally, the arsenal expands with six cutting-edge weapons: Hyper Velocity Mortar, Plasma Seeker, EMP Rockets, Mauler Cannon, Electron Beam, and Neutron Beam.

The update rolls out Tier 4 shields and armor, along with new hazards such as asteroid fields, elite enemy squadrons, and the Pacifier. Certain enemy mercenaries have been upgraded, introducing Nightmare, Riot, and Warhawk classes.
