Top Spring 2025 Anime Recommendations
I’ve highlighted The Apothecary Diaries, Once Upon A Witch’s Death, The Beginning After The End, To Be Hero X, and WITCH WATCH in my roundup of Spring 2025 anime dubs coming to Crunchyroll. However, there are several other notable picks from the list above that deserve your attention.
Devil May Cry is Netflix's latest animated video game adaptation, promising a thrilling experience with its Limp Bizkit-soundtracked trailer and a newly composed Evanescence track. With a track record that includes hits like Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and misses like Tekken: Bloodline and Dragon’s Dogma, Netflix's approach to anime-style game IPs is a mixed bag. However, with creator Adi Shankar, who has worked on Castlevania, Guardians of Justice, and Captain Laserhawk, and Studio Mir, known for Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra, behind the project, fans of anime like Trigun should find the mercenary adventures of Dante, the ultimate '00s edgelord, highly engaging.
Moonrise presents an intriguing concept where the moon fights for independence. This original net animation (ONA) boasts blockbuster talent, including animation by WIT Studio (Attack On Titan, Vinland Saga), original character designs by manga icon Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), and direction by Masashi Koizuka (Attack On Titan Seasons 2 & 3). Despite the limited information available about the story, the involvement of such high-caliber creators suggests a special treat is in store.
Lastly, YAIBA: Samurai Legends may be less known outside Japan or among younger audiences, but it has maintained a cult following since its manga debut in the late 1980s. Created by Gosho Aoyama, famous for Case Closed, this samurai comedy follows Yaiba Kurogane in his battle against a formidable foe armed with a magical katana and a demon army. With WIT Studio at the helm and Aoyama's direct involvement in production, this second anime adaptation promises to blend the style of Detective Conan with the humor of early Dragon Ball and numerous Japanese historical references.
