Sony has announced the establishment of a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, which originated from the renowned Destiny and Marathon developer, Bungie. Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, expressed his excitement about teamLFG's ambitious incubation project in a recent PlayStation Blog post.
teamLFG, where LFG stands for 'Looking For Group,' is set to focus on social gaming, with its debut game being a team-based action title. This game draws inspiration from a diverse range of genres including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." Players will dive into a lighthearted, comedic world within a brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.

The studio's mission is to foster friendship, community, and belonging through their games. They aim to create an environment where players feel excited to log on and find their teammates already online, forming bonds and creating memorable moments. teamLFG emphasizes the importance of players recognizing familiar names and crafting myths and memes from their gameplay experiences.
"We will make immersive multiplayer worlds propelled by action games that players can learn, play, and master for countless hours," teamLFG stated. They plan to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring they can adapt to player feedback both before and after launch to continuously enhance the game and its community.

teamLFG's project emerged from Bungie amid significant layoffs in 2023 and 2024, with over 300 employees affected across two rounds. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial targets with Destiny 2, leading to the layoffs and the subsequent announcement of the incubation project's spin-off.
Last year, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's role in pushing for improvements to Destiny 2, indicating a positive influence from the parent company. Since then, Bungie has fully revealed their extraction shooter, Marathon, and outlined the future roadmap for Destiny 2. However, they have no plans for Destiny 3 and have canceled a Destiny spinoff project called Payback.
