Scalebound: Hints of a Possible Revival?

Scalebound was once heralded as one of the most ambitious action projects of its era, blending dynamic combat, captivating music, and a novel system of interaction with a colossal dragon companion. This title was poised to be a standout Xbox One exclusive, sparking significant interest upon its announcement in 2014. However, the project was abruptly canceled by Microsoft in 2017, leaving fans and the gaming community in anticipation of what could have been.

Recently, excitement stirred again when Clovers Inc's official account on X shared a video of Hideki Kamiya and his team revisiting archived gameplay footage of Scalebound. Kamiya expressed a sense of nostalgia and pride for the project, despite its unfortunate cancellation. He further fueled speculation by retweeting the video with a direct message to Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's gaming division, saying, "Come on, Phil, let's do this!" This plea is not the first time Kamiya has voiced his interest in reviving Scalebound; he mentioned a similar desire back in early 2022.

Rumors about a potential Scalebound reboot have been circulating, with speculation intensifying in early 2023. Although no official confirmation from Microsoft has surfaced, the gaming community remains hopeful. When questioned about Scalebound in an interview with Game Watch, Phil Spencer offered a smile but no additional comments, leaving fans to continue speculating.

While the prospect of Scalebound's revival is thrilling, a swift return seems unlikely. Currently, Hideki Kamiya is engaged with a new installment of Okami at Clovers Inc. Should Microsoft decide to greenlight the project, development could only commence after Kamiya completes his current commitments. Yet, the enduring interest and discussions around Scalebound offer a glimmer of hope that this long-awaited game might one day see the light of day.
