Monster Hunter Wilds Eyes Beta Test 2 Extension
PS5 Gamers Faced 24-Hour Downtime
Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is contemplating a one-day extension of its Open Beta Test 2 due to a PlayStation Network outage that disrupted gameplay this weekend. The network was offline for 24 hours starting at 6 PM EST on February 7th, halting all online console games, including the MH Wilds beta. Services resumed around 8 PM EST, as announced by PlayStation’s official NA X support account.
As of now, no specific date or time for the extension has been confirmed, but a 24-hour extension is planned to compensate for lost playtime. The extension could occur between the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 and February 27th, just before the game’s official launch. Meanwhile, Beta Test 2 Part 1 has wrapped up, with Part 2 set to start on February 13th at 7 PM PT. Players can dive back into the action and may encounter a humorous glitch that transforms detailed characters into low-resolution, blocky figures.
Low-Poly Glitch Makes a Comeback
Capcom has noted that the beta test builds are outdated and do not represent the final game at launch. These builds are prone to technical issues, including a notorious low-poly glitch caused by improperly loaded textures. This bug morphs characters, Palicos, and monsters into quirky, blocky versions of their intended designs.
Rather than frustration, fans have embraced these odd shapes, sharing their low-poly adventures on social media. Some even hope MH Wilds will pay tribute to its glitchy beginnings. In a GamesRadar+ interview, the MH Wilds team expressed amusement at the bug and encouraged players to enjoy it, while advising them to experience the game with optimal specs at its February launch.
Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest chapter in the celebrated Monster Hunter series, introduces an open-world setting called the Forbidden Lands. Players assume the role of a Hunter exploring this uncharted region and confronting its apex predator, the White Wraith. This action-RPG is slated for release on February 28th, 2025, on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
PlayStation Network’s Worst Outage in Years
PlayStation’s NA X support account cited an “operational issue” as the cause of the 24-hour outage and issued an apology for the disruption. As compensation, active PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an additional five days of service.
Despite this, fans expressed frustration over Sony’s limited communication during the outage, which sparked concerns reminiscent of the 2011 PSN breach. That incident, caused by a hacker attack, compromised around 77 million accounts and left servers offline for over three weeks, from April 20th to May 14th. Sony kept users informed throughout that crisis, conducting a detailed investigation to assess the attack’s scope.
