2023年，索尼推出了可外接的PS5光驱，作为数字版PS5的周边配件。然而，2024年PS5 Pro发布后，这款配件却意外成为抢手货。由于PS5 Pro不含光驱，想要升级硬件又不舍弃光盘游戏的玩家，只能依赖这款外接光驱。
然而，由此产生的巨大需求导致PS5光驱自PS5 Pro于2024年11月上市以来一直供不应求，索尼自营的PS Direct网站难以维持库存。在英国等地区，黄牛囤积光驱，高价转售，重演了2020年PS5首发时的场景。这些高价转售的光驱给玩家带来了巨大的经济压力，因为PS5 Pro本身价格就已经不菲。
目前看来，情况短期内难以改善。《PlayStation Lifestyle》报道称，截至发稿时，PS5光驱短缺问题依然存在。美国和英国的PS Direct官网仍然缺货，库存一到货便被抢购一空。一些第三方零售商，如百思买和塔吉特，也提供PS5光驱，但只有少数幸运玩家能在随机补货时抢到。
PS5光驱短缺持续
正如前文所述，黄牛迅速抓住PS5光驱作为PS5 Pro补充配件的市场需求，选择囤积光驱而非主机本身。索尼至今未就持续的短缺问题发表评论，许多玩家对此感到不解，特别是考虑到该公司在2020年疫情期间努力维持PS5产量的举动。
PS5 Pro内置光驱的缺失自9月份首次亮相以来一直备受争议，因为从索尼官方渠道购买独立的PS5 Slim光驱需额外支付约80美元，这在其高昂的价格标签上又增加了一笔不小的开支。由于黄牛囤货导致价格飙升，许多PS5玩家目前别无选择，只能等待供应增加和需求下降——而这种情况似乎短期内不会发生。
