Atlus producer Kazushi Wada reiterates the unlikelihood of Persona 3 Portable's popular female protagonist (FeMC), Kotone Shiomi/Minako Arisato, appearing in Persona 3 Reload. This decision, detailed in a recent PC Gamer interview, stems from significant development hurdles.
The FeMC's Inclusion: A Costly Undertaking
Integrating the FeMC, even as post-launch DLC, proved too resource-intensive for Atlus. Wada explained that the development time and financial costs were simply unfeasible, making inclusion impossible within the current release timeframe. This assertion echoes previous statements made to Famitsu, emphasizing the substantial increase in development time and expense compared to the recently released Episode Aigis DLC. The scale of this undertaking, several times larger than the Aigis DLC, presented an insurmountable obstacle.
Disappointment for Fans
This news will undoubtedly disappoint fans who hoped to see the FeMC in Persona 3 Reload, either at launch or as additional content. The popularity of the FeMC in Persona 3 Portable fueled expectations for her inclusion, but Wada's comments leave little room for optimism regarding future additions. While the remake faithfully recreates many aspects of the original, the FeMC's absence remains a significant point of contention for many players. Wada offered sincere apologies to fans who had held out hope for her appearance. The decision, though disappointing, ultimately reflects the practical limitations of game development.
