Larian Studios has announced that the eagerly awaited Patch 8 for Baldur's Gate 3 will officially launch on Tuesday, April 15. This update, which has been in stress test form for a while, is now ready for all players to enjoy. Patch 8 brings a wealth of new content to this critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, including the introduction of 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play functionality, and split-screen support for Xbox Series S. For a detailed look at all the changes, check out the Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 patch notes.
Bard - College of Glamour
As a College of Glamour Bard, you harness the power to both heal allies and control enemies. With Mantle of Inspiration, you can grant your allies 5 temporary hit points, and any enemy that attacks while this spell is active becomes Charmed. Leverage this with Mantle of Majesty to command Charmed enemies to flee, approach, freeze, drop to the ground, or drop their weapon.
Barbarian - Path of Giants
Choose the Path of Giants to gain immense strength, making it easier to throw both allies and enemies. With the Giant’s Rage passive, you'll benefit from increased size and strength, dealing additional damage with Throw attacks and enjoying a higher carry capacity.
Cleric - Death Domain
As a Death Domain Cleric, you'll master necrotic damage and three new necromancy cantrips, including Toll The Dead, which deals 1~8 damage when you ring the bell of impending doom, scaling if the target is already wounded. You can also explode nearby corpses to damage enemies.
Druid - Circle of Stars
Circle of Stars Druids draw power from the stars, adopting one of three Starry Forms - the Archer, Chalice, and Dragon. Each form caters to different strategies: the Archer deals radiant damage with astral arrows, the Chalice restores hitpoints, and the Dragon enhances constitution rolls, offering versatile roles as healers, fighters, or strategists.
Paladin - Oath of the Crown
Sworn to uphold law, Oath of the Crown Paladins gain abilities like Righteous Clarity to guide allies in battle, taunt enemies with strategic interrupts, and use Divine Allegiance to absorb damage and restore health to your party.
Fighter - Arcane Archer
Arcane Archers blend magic with marksmanship, featuring unique skills and new shooting animations. You can banish foes to the Feywild or unleash Psychic damage, potentially blinding enemies until their next turn.
Monk - Drunken Master
As a Drunken Master Monk, you can consume alcohol from your inventory or around the Sword Coast to recover Ki. Use Intoxicating Strike to share a drink with enemies, boosting your Armour Class and hit chance against drunk targets, while Sobering Realisation deals physical and Psychic damage to sober them up.
Ranger - Swarmkeeper
Swarmkeeper Rangers command three types of deadly swarms in combat: Cloud of Jellyfish for extra lightning damage, Flurry of Moths for Psychic damage and potential blinding, and Legion of Bees for piercing damage with a knockback effect. Each swarm also offers teleportation capabilities.
Rogue - Swashbuckler
Swashbuckler Rogues master new actions perfect for a piratical life, such as tossing sand to Blind enemies, flicking weapons to Disarm them, and using Fancy Footwork to avoid opportunity attacks after melee engagements.
Sorcerer - Shadow Magic
Shadow Magic Sorcerers thrive in darkness with Superior Darkvision and the ability to Shadow Walk between dim light or darkness. Summon the Hound of Ill Omen to harass foes and use Strength of the Grave to stay in the fight, especially useful in Honour Mode.
Warlock - Hexblade
Hexblade Warlocks make pacts with Shadowfell entities, manifesting as magical weapons. Curse enemies and raise their spirits as summons to deal necrotic damage and heal your Warlock by stealing their souls.
Wizard - Bladesinging
Bladesinging Wizards combine swordplay with wizardry, featuring new spellcasting animations and the Bladesong ability for enhanced speed, agility, focus, and bonus Constitution saving throws.

Patch 8 marks the final major update for Baldur's Gate 3, concluding a highly successful period for Larian Studios. The game, which launched in 2023, received widespread critical acclaim and achieved significant commercial success, continuing to sell strongly into 2025.
Larian has surprised the gaming community by announcing its departure from Baldur's Gate 3 and the Dungeons & Dragons universe to focus on a new, undisclosed project. Meanwhile, Hasbro, the owner of D&D, has hinted at continuing the series. Speaking at the Game Developers Conference, Dan Ayoub, SVP of digital games at Hasbro, mentioned that with Larian moving on, there is significant interest in Baldur's Gate. While no concrete plans were revealed, Ayoub expressed a desire for a Baldur's Gate 4 but emphasized a measured approach to its development.
To celebrate the release of Patch 8, Larian will host a Twitch livestream featuring senior systems designer Ross Stephens, who will discuss the new changes and additions in detail.
