Palworld, showcased at PlayStation's September 2024 State of Play, is now available on PlayStation consoles following its Xbox and PC releases. However, a significant exception exists: the PS5 launch in Japan is indefinitely delayed.
Palworld's PlayStation 5 Debut and Japanese Delay
Palworld's PS5 State of Play Reveal
The PS5 version of Palworld launched globally as announced during the PlayStation State of Play event. Sony even highlighted a character sporting Horizon Forbidden West-inspired gear. Despite this successful global launch, Japanese PlayStation users are currently unable to access the game.
The Japanese Release Remains Uncertain
Palworld's Japanese (X) Twitter account acknowledged the global release, noting its availability in 68 countries and regions. They apologized to Japanese fans, stating that a release date for Japan is yet to be determined, citing ongoing efforts to bring the game to all PS5 users as quickly as possible.
The reason for the delay is widely believed to be the ongoing legal battle between Nintendo, Pokémon, and Palworld's developer, Pocketpair, over alleged patent infringement. Nintendo's recent lawsuit in Tokyo District Court, seeking an injunction and damages, casts a significant shadow over the game's future in Japan. A granted injunction could force Pocketpair to cease Palworld operations entirely, potentially leading to the game's removal from the market.
