"Oblivion Remastered Update Causes Visual Glitches; Bethesda Seeks Solution"

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered PC players faced unexpected challenges following a surprise update that rolled out today, but Bethesda has assured fans that a solution is in the works.

Players discovered that Virtuos’ expansive re-release of the classic game had received an unanticipated update earlier today. Without accompanying patch notes or a clear explanation of what the update was meant to address, many continued their gaming sessions as usual. However, a significant number of players soon realized that the first update for Oblivion Remastered was causing more issues than it resolved.

Yoooo why would @virtuosgames push an update to Oblivion Remastered that removes all upscaling right before the games first weekend?!!?

A Reddit user highlighted the problem, stating, "Can't change the upscaling methods anymore. It's set to 'off' and while the arrows are clickable nothing happens. So I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVidia app (was testing something before the patch came) and started the game again. Loading times for my save are long again and still can't change upscaling settings lol.

“Now I am stuck with 40-60 fps in high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Nice patch :D”

While some players have not experienced significant performance changes, others are grappling with new issues, such as reduced framerates. A common complaint is that the update has completely disabled access to upscaling settings, leaving fans facing major visual challenges just as Oblivion Remastered’s first weekend begins.

Are you playing Oblivion for the first time with Remastered, or did you play the original first? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AnswerSee ResultsBethesda has responded to the community's concerns with a statement on its official support page. The post clarified that the update was intended to include “a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting gameplay.” However, it appears that players who purchased Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store are the ones primarily affected, particularly with regards to their upscaling and anti-aliasing options.

Bethesda further explained, “Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix are still enabled and function normally. However, you will temporarily be unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI. The team is taking a look and working out a resolution, we will share more info as soon as we can.”

PlayWhile the exact timing of a fix remains uncertain, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S consoles seem unaffected and can continue enjoying the game without issues.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launched earlier this week for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S. For deeper insights into Bethesda’s surprise re-release, explore why Bethesda and Virtuos chose to preserve the original game’s quirks and why fans continue to adore it after all these years.
