While Nintendo previously prioritized its Direct presentations, their SGF return coincides with rumors about their next-generation Switch 2 handheld console. Attendees shouldn't expect a full-stage production, but substantial Switch 2 details and upcoming game trailers appear likely.
Xbox continues its annual Summer Game Fest tradition with a showcase expected to feature Call of Duty, Gears of War: E-Day, and The Outer Wilds 2—plus potential reveals of long-awaited titles like State of Decay 3 and Rare's Everwild.
State of Decay 3's development milestones became evident during Xbox's 2024 showcase when developers previewed rendered in-game assets. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer recently reaffirmed his enthusiasm for the franchise during a February 2025 interview, praising Double Fine's iterative development approach.
Spencer also provided insights into Rare's mystical adventure Everwild, noting tangible progress during his studio visit. Originally announced in 2019 as a "unique experience in a magical natural world," the project appears closer to realization.
Though neither title has been officially confirmed for the showcase, recent developments suggest strong possibilities. Viewers can catch the Xbox Games Showcase livestream on June 8 at 10:00 AM PT across Xbox's YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook platforms, followed immediately by The Outer Worlds 2 Direct.
