Capcom recently published a comprehensive analysis of Monster Hunter Wilds’ gameplay data. Titled “The Forbidden Lands White Paper 1,” the Japanese-language report examines player behavior following the April 4 update, highlighting a clear preference for specific in-game cuisines.
The free April 4 update for Monster Hunter Wilds introduced new quests, monsters, and the Grand Hub, a social area where players can connect. The Grand Hub features a canteen where Meal Vouchers can be redeemed for regional dishes from The Forbidden Lands. Consuming these meals grants various buffs based on the dish, making the Grand Hub and Meal Vouchers a convenient way to prepare characters for quests without traveling to specific regions. Meal Vouchers are available as daily login bonuses or Arena quest rewards.
According to Automaton Japan, the Forbidden Lands White Paper 1 detailed the usage of the four regional Meal Vouchers. Spring Kunafa Cuisine dominated with an impressive 87.8% of voucher redemptions, followed by Fresh Sild Cuisine (8.2%), Colorful Suja Cuisine (3.5%), and Hot Azuz Cuisine (0.5%).
The report attributes Spring Kunafa Cuisine’s popularity to the distribution of five free vouchers during the April 4 update, which many players used. These vouchers offer a chance at one of three buffs, with the Defender Meal (Hi) buff likely favored for its significant reduction in damage from monster attacks, ideal for challenging quests.
Unequal distribution of regional vouchers may explain the lower usage of Sild, Suja, and Azuz cuisines. However, data on Pick-a-Meal Voucher usage provides clearer insight into player preferences for specific dishes.
Pick-a-Meal Vouchers allow players to select a dish from any region. Here, Hot Azuz Cuisine led with 41.3% of selections, followed by Colorful Suja Cuisine (28.3%), Spring Kunafa Cuisine (19%), and Fresh Sild Cuisine (12%).
The report suggests players favor Azuz dishes for the Tumbler Meal (Hi) buff, which enhances evasion, crucial for bow users to fill the Trick Arrow Gauge through successful Discerning Dodges. Colorful Suja Cuisine, the second most popular, appeals to offensive players with buffs like Caprice Meal (Hi), which boosts attack damage randomly, and Exploiter Meal, which increases rewards from breaking monster wounds, complete with vibrant sushi roll animations.
While players likely choose meals for their buffs, the Pick-a-Meal Voucher data has sparked amusement, as it suggests Fresh Sild Cuisine is less favored. Most Monster Hunter Wilds dishes appear delectable, with Kunafa’s banquet cutscene reportedly driving demand for cheese naan at Nepalese restaurants in Japan.
Sild Cuisine, served in the desolate Wyveria ruins, features simple, unappealing ingredients like unripe white tomatoes and raw garlic bulbs, contrasting sharply with the lavish feasts of other regions. Players have described Sild dishes as “unappetizing” in discussions, such as on a Reddit thread.
