Marvel Rivals Dev Plans to Enhance Strategist Experience After Support Player Strike

NetEase Games, the developer behind Marvel Rivals, has unveiled plans to alleviate the challenges faced by Strategists just days after the community initiated a Support strike. Season 2 of Marvel Rivals has been largely successful, introducing new characters, maps, and modes, while promising faster seasons and an expanded roster of heroes. However, recent balance changes have shifted the power dynamics, putting Strategists, who serve as the game's Support class, at a disadvantage against Vanguards and Duelists.

Since the launch of Season 2, the diminished effectiveness of the Support class has sparked widespread discussion within the Marvel Rivals community. As other classes gain more battlefield prowess, Strategists have faced not only tough matches but also toxic interactions, with teammates often blaming them in text and voice chats. This tension culminated in a community-wide strike this week, where numerous players announced they would avoid playing as healers until NetEase addresses their concerns and improves the gameplay experience for Strategists.

In response to the strike and the ongoing challenges, NetEase has outlined a plan to ease the pressure on Strategists. In a Dev Talk post on their website, the developer detailed a two-pronged approach: enhancing the Support role and making Competitive mode more rewarding. An upcoming patch will elevate the "threat levels" of Strategists, potentially buffing heroes like Invisible Woman or Jeff the Land Shark, while nerfing the survivability of Vanguards such as Captain America and Groot. Additionally, Spider-Man's Amazing Combo ability will see a reduced damage range. Specific details on which characters will be affected are yet to be disclosed.

"Since this is a mid-season balance adjustment, we aim to be cautious, keeping changes minimal to enhance the experience of certain heroes without drastically altering the overall meta," NetEase explained. "As we move into S2.5, with Ultron's arrival and new Team-Up Ability adjustments, we'll consider broader, more comprehensive balance changes."

In Competitive mode, which has seen altered stats since Season 2 began, Duelists have enjoyed a performance advantage, while Vanguards and Strategists have been at a slight disadvantage. To address this, NetEase plans to adjust performance rating calculations to ensure fairness across all heroes.
