Like its predecessors, Dynasty Warriors: Origins plunges you into the heart of ancient China, letting you carve a path through history alongside various warlords. However, the game eventually requires you to commit to a specific faction. This guide clarifies the faction selection process.
The initial chapters feature the Wanderer, your playable character, operating independently. You'll assist Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei, participating in pivotal events like the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate, without formally aligning with any one side.
Chapter 3 marks a turning point. The game prompts you to choose a faction before the chapter's conclusion. While you'll likely have a preference by this stage, the game provides additional battles to solidify your decision.
To ally with a specific faction, you must complete a certain number of missions for them: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Once you meet the requirement, a new mission triggers, forcing you to choose a side. Only factions with completed missions will be selectable. However, you retain the flexibility to complete all faction missions before making your final decision.
Your choice is permanent. Once you select a faction, the others become inaccessible for the remainder of the game. You'll lose access to side quests from the unchosen factions, hindering your ability to strengthen bonds and potentially impacting the difficulty of your chosen path.
Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all Dynasty Warriors: Origins content, create a separate save file before choosing a kingdom. This allows you to replay the game with different factions.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
