Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy headed to Switch 2

In Nintendo's latest Creator's Voice video series, Final Fantasy Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will launch on Switch 2.

Intergrade represents the enhanced PS5 edition of 2020's PS4 release Final Fantasy VII Remake - the opening chapter in Square Enix's ambitious trilogy reimagining the legendary 1997 PlayStation RPG. This upgraded version features improved visuals and lighting alongside the Intermission story DLC focusing on fan-favorite ninja Yuffie's Midgar infiltration.

Currently available on PS5 and PC, Hamaguchi stated Switch 2's upgraded hardware capabilities will finally allow bringing the full experience to Nintendo's platform. "The Switch 2's power enables us to faithfully recreate Midgar with complete specifications," Hamaguchi explained.

"Experiencing this game portably means enjoying it during your work commute," Hamaguchi noted regarding Switch 2's handheld functionality, adding that portable gameplay facilitates easier discussion and sharing of player progress.

The Switch 2 version will implement GameChat functionality for real-time voice chat and screen sharing between players. "I'm thrilled for this portable iteration," Hamaguchi shared enthusiastically, expressing optimism about "strengthening the Final Fantasy brand's relationship with Nintendo."

While only Remake Intergrade has been officially announced for Switch 2, Hamaguchi concluded: "We hope players anticipate experiencing the entire Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy on Switch 2," strongly hinting at future releases for Rebirth and the trilogy's finale.

This marks a significant homecoming - while the Resident Evil-style Final Fantasy VII pioneered 3D graphics by transitioning from Nintendo to PlayStation's CD-ROM format in 1997, Nintendo fans will finally experience this seminal title's modern reinvention.
