Rumors of a canceled Crash Bandicoot 5 are swirling, fueled by comments from former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole. Kole's recent X (formerly Twitter) post hinted at the game's demise, alongside another scrapped project, "Project Dragon."
A "Project Dragon" and a Potential Crash 5, Both Shelved?
Kole initially addressed speculation that "Project Dragon" was a Spyro title, clarifying it was an original IP developed with Phoenix Labs. However, he then added a cryptic comment about Crash Bandicoot 5: "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," he stated. This revelation sparked considerable fan disappointment.

The news follows Toys For Bob's transition from an Activision Blizzard subsidiary to an independent studio earlier this year, coinciding with Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox on an unannounced project, the future of Crash Bandicoot 5 remains uncertain.
The last major Crash Bandicoot installment, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020), achieved impressive sales exceeding five million copies. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter ending live service in March 2024.
With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the possibility of a future Crash Bandicoot 5 remains open. However, fans may have to wait and see if this highly anticipated sequel ever materializes.
