Raising livestock in *Fields of Mistria* can be a lucrative venture, but the daily task of petting them can become tedious. If you're looking to streamline your farm management, an auto-petter would be a game-changer. Unfortunately, the vanilla version of *Fields of Mistria* does not include such a device, requiring you to manually pet your animals every day. However, there's a workaround—modding.

To bypass the daily petting chore, you can utilize the "Animal Friends" mod developed by annanomoly, available on Nexus Mods. This mod not only automates the petting process but also takes care of feeding your livestock. To get started, you'll need the "Mods of Mistria Installer," a crucial tool for activating the mod. Skipping this step will render the mod ineffective.
Here's how to install the mod:
- Create a new folder named "Mods" within your *Fields of Mistria* directory.
- Download the "AnimalFriends.zip" file and place it in the "Mods" folder.
- Extract the contents of the zip file.
- Delete or move the original zip file to another location.
- Launch the "Mods of Mistria Installer" to complete the installation process.
The "Animal Friends" mod comes packed with features you can customize. Alongside the auto-petter, you can activate an auto-feeder, a friendship multiplier, and a feature to prevent friendship loss. The friendship multiplier boosts the affection level (hearts) of your animals, while the prevent friendship loss ensures that the hearts you've earned stay intact.
To tweak the settings, locate the "AnimalFriends.json" file within the extracted mod folder. It's a simple text document where you can activate features by changing "false" to "true". For instance, to enable the auto-petter, you would adjust the setting to: ["auto-feed": true]. To disable any feature, simply switch "true" back to "false".
The friendship multiplier requires a numerical input, allowing you to set it between 1 and 100. If you're not keen on bonding with your animals, crank it up to the maximum. To revert, just set it back to 1.
Upon first installing the mod, keep in mind that certain features like the auto-pet and auto-feed won't be active by default. However, the mod does come with a default setting that multiplies heart points gained from petting by five and automatically enables the prevent friendship loss feature.
To uninstall the mod safely, avoid simply deleting the mod folder. Instead, use the "Mods of Mistria Installer" to properly remove it, thus preventing any potential corruption or errors in your save file.
That's all you need to know about implementing an auto-petter in *Fields of Mistria*. Before installing the mod, it's wise to back up your save file to ensure stability.
