Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice

Emerging circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons might offer a novel functionality: operating as computer mice. While the widespread adoption of this mode by game developers remains uncertain, the potential feature aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative experimentation.

The evidence originates from Famiboards user LiC, who previously accessed Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data source has fueled numerous Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024.

In early January 2025, LiC revealed further findings: customs manifests mentioning polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape, described as "mouse soles" and intended "to stick to game console handles." This terminology, typically associated with computer mice, strongly suggests the Switch 2 Joy-Cons could mimic mouse functionality.

Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were referenced. These designations haven't been found in public component databases, hinting at unreleased products. The reported 90 x 90mm size of these tape pieces suggests they could cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, potentially requiring trimming during assembly.

Not a First for Handheld Consoles

While innovative for Nintendo, a mouse-like controller mode isn't unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already features this capability with its right controller, transformable into a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even provides a plastic housing to facilitate this mode.

The Legion GO also shares rumored Switch 2 features like magnetic controller rails, offering a potential preview of Nintendo's hybrid console design.
