Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

Apr 22,2025 Author: Natalie

Ubisoft's latest entry in the iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived, taking us back to the rich historical setting of 16th-century Japan. As players step into the shoes of Naoe and Yasuke, we find ourselves reflecting on the entire Assassin’s Creed saga. With over 30 games under its belt, we're focusing on the mainline entries, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR games, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles exploring the memories of his ancestor Altaïr through the Animus. Fast forward 18 years, and the series has evolved significantly. Assassin’s Creed Shadows marks the 14th installment in the core series. To help you gauge where it stands, I've created a tier list based on my personal enjoyment of each game. Here's how I rank them:

In my opinion, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains the pinnacle of the series. The blend of island exploration, thrilling ship combat, and a vibrant cast creates an unparalleled Assassin’s Creed experience. It shares the S-tier with Assassin’s Creed 2, which truly propelled the series into the spotlight. Valhalla secures an A-tier spot, perhaps surprisingly, due to its engaging Viking-inspired combat and my fondness for the Orlog minigame. Joining it is Unity, whose breathtaking recreation of Revolutionary France continues to impress even a decade later.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Maybe you think Valhalla is overly bloated, or perhaps Assassin’s Creed 2 is overrated in your eyes. You have the chance to create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community. Let's see where your preferences lie:
